Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, an American rapper singer. Her work as Queen Latifah in television, film and music has won her several accolades. They include a Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, New Jersey. Her parents are Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of 10. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic high school located at Newark New Jersey. Latifah is her name for stage when she reached the age of eight. It means delicate in Arabic. Being a tall girl, her height of 5'10 inches Latifah was a forward for the basketball team at her high school. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah started to beatbox for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah joined in the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of a group of MCs and DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King made a demo recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He then gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song, and then made a deal with Latifah in 1988, to drop her first single Wrath of My Madness.
